Breitling distinguishes itself in the field of micro-electronics once again with the new Emergency II, the very first wristwatch with a built-in personal locator beacon (PLB). Its predecessor, released back in 1995, was conceived specifically for professionals in the aviation industry. It saved a significant number of lives as well, galvanising designers at Breitling to materialise a wristwatch catering to extreme professions and emergencies, including trekking, navigation, hunting, exploration, extreme sports to name a few.


The Emergency II is linked to the specifications of the Cospas-Sarsat international satellite alert system, capable of sending accurate distress and homing signals to Search and Rescue (SAR) authorities. The system works through a series of communications, such as low-orbiting satellites and ground receiving stations; triggering alerts for up to 24 hours, on 406 MHz on 121.5 MHz frequencies on a 50 second and 2.25 second interval respectively.
